Melting the Hearts of Every Girl: BOYS BEFORE FLOWERS

By Needful Things

I remember the days when every girl around me was drooling about the television series Meteor Garden. All they did was have this huge pictures of the cast posted on their dorm walls and even their wallets. I sure wondered "What the hell do they see on these kind of shows"? I mean the show was simply a very simple plot of exchanging partners.

Next came F4... now this show was worse. Every girl you would meet would suddenly be in a trance when Meteor Garden gets in the conversation. Even little girls memorize the sound track and sing it in the Korean language. Was that Chinese? These shows has rooted so much in the Filipino culture that even today you can still see it in the people.

Here comes another television series that's about to hit the Filipinos that can may well be another Meteor Garden in the making.

Introducing... BOYS OVER FLOWERS or BOY BEFORE FLOWERS. It also known as Kgot Boda Namja.

Here's a brief background of the show:

Kkot Boda Namja (also known as Boys Over Flowers or Boys Before Flowers) is the Korean Version of Yoko Kamio's Hana Yori Dango. This is the 3rd live version of the manga.

Episodes: 24
Production Company and Broadcast network: Group Eight,KBS2
Original Work: Kamio Yoko's Hana Yori Dango Manga

Synopsis:

This television show actually recycles the the same old show about love triangles between the rich and the poor and the poor and the rich. What actually makes it marketable is stereotype being portrayed by the characters. Would you believe that before being adapted for television show that BOYS BEFORE FLOWERS was actually a Manga?

So this television show is generally about the life of Jan-Di. Jan-Di is you average commoner whose family owns a a dry cleaning store beside a school for the rich, Shin Hwa High. She saved a student from committing suicide while delivering his dry cleaned uniform inside the school. These made her an instant celebrity. she was called the "Wonder Woman". Her fame got her a scholarship to Shin Hwa High.

She meets the four richest and most popular boys of the high school called the F4 or Flower 4 (notice the reference to a similar show). "Bad Ass" boys who steps on anyone who crosses them. And so it follows that our little Wonder Woman falls in love with all of them and the F4 on her. The story revolves around this ever shifting love triangle.

Expect sooner or later this television series becoming a major hit in the Philippines... because isn't it every girls dream to be courted by the rich?
