Sony Exmor DSC-HX1: The king of Superzooms
By Needful Things
I wrote an intel about the Nikon Coolpix P90. It was at that time what I thought was the ulitmate super zoom. With 14 frames per second burst shot and raw image format... what was I to think anyway. It was definitely the best superzoom. In comes Sony with a blazing product that kicks the butt of all the other super zooms in the market including the Nikon P90. It would seem that Sony was just biding its time. So what makes it so special? Well for one, it uses a highly advance and high speed 9MP Exmor CMOS sensor coupled with a 28-560mm (35mm-camera-equivalent) 20x zoom lens. It is capable of shooting at 10 frames per second at full resolution. It does this by using a mechanical shutter. So very much like a DSLR. Take note - THAT IS FULL RESOLUTION. The Nikon P90's 14fps was only possible at its lower resolutions. And of course it is capable of taking high definition movies of up to 1080/30p with stero sound. It also includes all the bells and whistles Sony cameras are known for... that include bells and whistles of Sony DSLR's... Introducing the Sony Cybershot DSC-HX1. The only superzoom in the world that can take panoramic shots of 224-degree horizontal or 154 degree vertical shots. It uses the new Sony Sweep Panaroma Technology. Until now... panaoramic shots was done by taking several shots and stitching it with the aid of software. With the Sweep Panaroma of the Sony HX1... everything is done on the fly. “This panorama mode is so seamless that it removes the guess work,” Noblecilla said. “The camera indicates where you are in the degree range, so you know how wide you can shoot and stitches the photos automatically. It calculates and aligns pictures for you without using additional software.” Oh, it also uses the advance Sony G Lens. G lenses employ A-spherical lens elements, extra low dispersion glass which gives the HX1 lower chromatic aberration compared to existing superzooms. Partnered with the new BIONZ image processor, the HX1 is ale to have 50% less noise, sharper images and better picures in low light as compared to existing superzooms. This feature alone make the new Sony Cybershot DSC-HX1 the king of all superzooms. A little more tweaking and it will also kick the butts of entry level DSLR's. I can't wait for Canon's and Olympus' contender.
