Sun Spots: Getting rid of Age Spots
By Needful Things
They should have been called Sun Spots. But for some reason people referred to them as Age Spots. These gray or brown spots start to sprinkle or appear at the back of your hands (sometimes in other parts of the body) as result of years of direct exposure to the sun's ultra violet radiation. These radiation destroys special color producing cells called melanocytes in your body. No matter how hard you try of ridding you skin of them... they tend to come back when exposed to the sun. Doctors advise using a suitable sunblock with SPF of 15 to prevent them from spreading. There are alternative solutions to this problem: AROMATHERAPY The bleaching properties of the essential oils of lemon and benzoin helps fade sunspots. Combine a couple of drops of these oils to a vegetable carrier oil like almond, and apply it to the affected area can produce impressive results. LICORICE AND GLYCOLIC ACID Beauty products containing licorice and glycolic acid can sometime eliminate age spots. The glycolic acid exfoliates the skin while the licorice fades the spots. Just don't over do it. HONEY AND YOGURT A natural bleach is created when honey and yogurt are combined. This mixture is effective in fading brown ages spots. A 1 to 1 mixture of this ingredients mixed thoroughly and applied to the affected area for thirty minutes (washed away with water) is very good in preventing and fading sun spots. GOTU KOLA A certain herb called gotu kola is known to stimulate the regeneration of new and healthy cells and collagen. Recommended dosage is a daily tincture (1 dropper to 1/4 cup of water, 3x a day) or capsule of the herb (1 or 2 60-milligram a day). My grandmother vouches for the honey/yogurt mixture. Me? I'll wait two more decades and hope for newer medicines. ### |
